Our Safaris

Allowing us to share nature with you as seen through our eyes, will add immeasurable value to your safari.

Your Private Guide will, through interpretive continuity, set a pace which is in tune with natures’. This affords you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the safari, witnessing a natural flow of events, the way it was intended.

Our balanced blend of childish curiosity and respect allows for unique experiences which are safe and sensitive, yet up close and personal. Having the continuity throughout your safari of someone knowing where to draw the line, is critical in ensuring your safety. Our inquisitive nature also means that we pay attention to finer things often overlooked. A Private Guide is invaluable as far as added insight and experience is concerned, and skills gained over years of bush-time, coupled with an infectious enthusiasm and ever-present sense of humour, is often what turns an average safari into something much more memorable.

Safari durations range from short fly-in weekend breakaways to longer explorations.

Now that you know WHO you’re going with, let’s decide WHERE to...

Our safaris commonly take us on adventures to the following countries. Bear in mind that we design bespoke trips and the continent offers a much wider variety than those mentioned below.

Botswana

Central Kalahari: We love the wide open, grassy expanses dotted with lone Camelthorn trees in the largest unbroken swathe of sand on the planet. Contrary to popular belief this is not a desert but an area transformed after rainfall into a silver-green grassland dotted with pans and herds of oryx and wildebeest with their attendant predators. Remote & beautiful, this is an amazing place and we love going back. It never disappoints us. Huge flocks of Red-billed Quelea nesting in the hundreds of thousands momentarily blot out the setting sun , lions feeding on a massive Eland bull and a trio of irascible Honey Badger trotting down a game path are some of our more memorable sightings here.

We recommend staying at Kalahari Plains Camp and Tau Pan.

Okavango Delta: Imagine a distant river flooding onto the massive, flat Kalahari sand basin. Imagine a palm-studded island oasis in the middle of a hot, dry desert-like environment. Now add wildlife and a stunning array of water birds and there you have the world’s largest inland Delta! Seasonally flooding during the winter and lush green during the summer rains, this incredible anomaly is a must see, at least once in your life. Chief’s Island, Kwando and the Selinda areas are endowed with some of the best game-viewing in the region.

Mombo, Motswiri Ketumetsi, Lagoon Camp and Duba Plains are ideal camps to experience the best of the Delta.

Namibia

Etosha Pan: A shimmering mirage over a flat saline pan in the far northern reaches of Namibia’s parched landscape is the focal point of this unique wilderness. Calcrete-dusted white elephant appearing through the green woodland offer an incredibly inviting photographic spectacle as do endangered black rhinos stepping up to the waterhole at last light – what a sight! Etosha is extraordinary in every way imaginable. Last time we had the pleasure of visiting it, a thousand springbok crossed a flower-studded plain in front of us, and besides those antelope and a slight breeze, we were alone!

We recommend staying at: Ongava, Okaukuejo and Halali provide suitable accommodations.

Kunene/Skeleton Coast/Damaraland : This far north western part of Namibia is probably it’s most remote and inhospitable region. Desolation and desert adapted wildlife, linear oases in the form of ephemeral rivers and the hardy Himba people are all part of the landscape. The rock-strewn gravel plains with spectacular sunsets and starry night skies provides a compelling backdrop within which to explore the depths of desert as well as soul.

Serra Cafema, Skeleton Coast Camp, Desert Rhino Camp, Palmwag Lodge all affords fantastic accommodations and a base from which to experience this rugged wonderland.

Namib-Naukluft / Sossusvlei: Mere literary attempts at describing this most extraordinary desert scene fall far short of the overwhelming sense of wonder and place you feel when casting eyes upon it. High red sand dunes & rocky desert canyons, a full moon rising over the adjacent eastern mountains and the stunning Kuiseb river which temporarily halts the northern progress of northward-moving sand are characteristic aspects of this region. Incredibly variable colours & textures make this a photographer’s nirvana.

Kulala, Wolwedans, Swakopmund.

Zimbabwe

Hwange; This famous National Park is situated on the junction between the Kalahari sand and the moister eastern savannas of Zimbabwe. One of the highest populations of elephant occur within its boundaries at certain times of the year and healthy, burgeoning populations of plains game and carnivores great and small make their home here. Based upon sightings reports from season to season, this is a perfect year-round game-viewing destination.

We recommend staying at Makalolo & Somalisa.

Mana Pools; The Zambezi valley needs absolutely no introduction at all. A wildlife mecca and a nature-photographer’s dream-come-true, we have been visiting this unbelievable place for many years and it always surprises and enthrals us! Elephant circus-like on hind legs reaching for fruit pods in the towering ana-tree forests, crocodiles lurking along the river-banks and the remote Chitake Springs all provide for fascinating and scintillating encounters.

Ruckomechi & Kanga make the perfect exploratory base.

Zambia

South Luangwa: The meandering Luangwa River with its multitude of oxbow lakes filled with rafts of hippo are key features of the Park. Here is where we get off the vehicle and explore as it has the perfect blend of topography and vegetation for walking. A very healthy population of leopard and good wilddog and lion sightings, not to mention elephants revelling in the water makes for exciting on-foot encounters.

We recommend staying at Kapamba, Chamilandu, Zungulila and Mfuwe.

Kafue

This vast wilderness area, cut through by its two main watercourses the Kafue and Lufupa rivers, offers a bewildering display of biodiverse and beautiful habitats and an astonishing combination of animal life to boot! Being far from any major tourist routes, it embodies the true sense of wilderness and the small private camps we select are perfect for groups of up to 8 people.

Busanga Plains, Lufupa River Camp, McBrides Camp..

Tanzania

Selous/Ruaha: Known as the Southern Circuit, it is by far the more remote and wilder side of Tanzania. The Great Rufiji and Ruaha Rivers are the lifelines of these spectacular conservation areas which support an inordinate amount of diversity both plant and animal alike! Being less popular than the Northern Circuit translates into an area devoid of masses of people and offers a true wilderness experience. With the highest lion population we have ever encountered, beautiful landscapes and rugged topography, it is hands down one of our favourite destinations.

Beho Beho, Sand Rivers and Kwihala, Selous Project.

Serengeti: Part of the so-called Northern Circuit, the Serengeti is synonymous with the “original African safari” and countless thousands visit it annually with the anticipation of viewing some it’s natural spectacles, both geological and animal. Although home to one of planet earth’s most massive animal migrations, we are resolutely determined to seek out localities that will give us a genuine wilderness experience away from core eco-tourist routes. The Northern Circuit is busy and we would rather observe masses of wildlife than masses of tourists.

South Africa

Kruger: Where everything started for us! The lasting impression of this iconic Park indelibly left on us as kids is the reason we do what we do today! The size of Belgium and a savannah park with probably the greatest bio-diversity on the African continent, it remains the centrepiece of our safaris in South Africa! The far Northern corner is wild and remote! Fever-tree forests, massive gorges cut into sandstone, huge herds of elephant and buffalo and inspirational birdlife are but a few hidden treasures of the Makuleke region!

The Outpost and Pafuri Wilderness Camp.
