Journey through Mozambique
May-October
Stretched out along the eastern seaboard of Southern Africa, Mozambique possesses a treasure-trove of diversity and great wilderness areas which remains largely off the popular ecotourist radar for now, making it truly remote, wild and exclusive.
Niassa
Mpopo Camp
Niassa Special Reserve in northern Mozambique, with its northern boundary the Ruvuma River bordering Tanzania is recognized as the most important protected area in Mozambique, a critical protected region in Africa, and one of the last great wilderness areas on earth. Larger than Switzerland at 10.5 million acres, it is of profound importance for the global conservation of African wildlife, especially for the lion, painted wolf, and elephant.
Biodiversity surveys have revealed a species-rich and largely intact ecosystem of miombo woodlands, rivers, granite inselbergs, wetlands, and grass plains. There are human residents within this reserve and an immersive experience here brings home how successful and important human-wildlife co-existence can be.
Gorongosa
Muzimu Lodge
Gorongosa National Park is one of the most beautiful and special places in Africa. Thanks to its varied terrain, richness of its soil and the blessing of plentiful rain, Gorongosa boasts a remarkable variety of different vibrant ecosystems. After several surveys, some of the world’s leading scientists have declared Gorongosa to be one of the most “biodiverse” places on Earth – and our explorations in wild country such as this are almost second to none.
